California’s 15th official “Wine Month” is happening all September. It is that enticing time of the year when juicy ripe grapes hang heavy on the vines, and the air is filled with fruity aromas that signal harvest time. This month, those of us who delight in the harvest’s newest creations may choose from more than 100 events—from exclusive tastings to vineyard hikes throughout California’s wine regions, but why not shake it up this year by stomping a vintage of your own, a la “I love Lucy”? Check out these eight great grape stomps:

Southern California
More than 30 artisan booths, local beer and wine, and, of course, a grape stomp competition takes place at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center on September 14.

Ponte Winery’s Grape Stomp takes place on September 22. The special event includes more than just stomping. Enjoy a dinner, live music and dancing–and of course wine! Have fun touring all the vineyards while you there. Need inspiration? Here are 50 “grape” reasons to go.

Central California
On September 14, join Chad Melville for foot stomping, punch downs, pressing and more. After 23 harvests, Chad is excited to share this hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience with those who are eager to learn about wine growing. Reservations required.
Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival, Arroyo Grande
On September 27-28, Downtown Arroyo Grande celebrates the Harvest Festival with a parade, entertainment, performances, music, scarecrow decorating contest, homegrown growing contest, pie and bread contest, arts and crafts, food and a grape stomp.
Northern California
Alexander Valley Vineyards, Healdsburg
Enjoy a Harvest Party on September 14 at Alexander Valley Vineyards that is highlighted by grape picking, a grape stomp, Wine Cave tour, blessing of the grapes and more!

Grape Stomp Competition, St. Helena
This is your chance to experience the age old ritual of stomping grapes for wine making. Lucille Ball immortalized it, and now it’s your turn now to get in that barrel and squeeze as much juice out of the grapes as possible. The stomping fun takes place September 21.
Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival, Sonoma
This festival, held in Sonoma Plaza, includes both adult and youth grape stomps! Join in the fun September 27-29.

Central California
Celebrate Ficklin Vineyards 70th harvest on September 14 with a hearty great stomp and meal. Savor Tri-tip BBQ al fresco, stomp grapes, taste Ports, sip Port punch and Sangrias, Indulge in desserts, play corn hole, sample fermentations in process on their way to becoming award-winning Ports.
